Susannah Rand writes speculative fiction from her old Victorian house in Des Moines, Iowa. (No, it's sadly not haunted. She's tested.)
Susannah graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in Gender and Sexuality Studies in 2015 and from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a master's degree in Fiction Writing in 2021. Her primary writing interest is in telling stories about queer folks falling in love and having grand adventures, but sometimes she writes short stories about surreal, spooky, or science fiction-y things, too. Inspiration hits her most often when she's driving, which is why she listens to absolute silence in the car even though that makes some of her friends think that there's something seriously wrong with her.
She's currently on the hunt for a literary agent to represent her debut YA fantasy-romance novel, Malverna Moore Is Not a Witch, which she describes offhandedly as a "gay fantasy road trip." It features a whole lot of whimsy and magic, found family, and a grumpy/sunshine sapphic dynamic.
